COVID OUTDOOR MEETING 8 MARCH 2022
The March 8 COVID OUTDOOR MEETING was enjoyed by 12 members on another lovely warm, and calm evening at the Rotunda in Queenstown Gardens which provided a beautiful backdrop with some members enjoying a picnic dinner.

We also had one of the Queenstown RYLArians talk to us.  Natasya Zambri was corporate sponsored by the QLDC and this sponsorship was endorsed by our Club.  Natasya gave a heart-warming account of the impact RYLA has had on her and the confidence it has given her.

The NEXT COVID OUTDOOR MEETING will be held this coming Tuesday 22 March.  The weather is looking ok.  The Venue is the 12 Mile Delta lower carpark (see map), at 5.30pm.  The guest speaker is Finn O’Connor from ‘Guide my Ride’.  Finn is a local expert on E-Bikes.  Bring your E-Bike if you can, Finn is available to give you riding tips, for riding in all types of terrain and advice on how to care for your precious investment.

MEETINGS UPDATE MARCH 2022
A few members have asked when we will be returning back to normal.  The Board has determined that there is still a reasonable risk for some members to contract COVID19 especially when we do not know for sure, where the Holiday Inn staff have been, who they live with, or if indeed there are hotel guests or diners, who may be spreaders.  When the local number of COVID cases starts to decline, the Board will re-look at it.

In the meantime, for those members who are keen to socialise and catch up with their fellow Rotarians, you have the opportunity every second week at the COVID OUTDOOR MEETINGS.  So far these have not been greatly supported which could mean that some of you aren’t keen to mix and mingle yet, however the Board wishes to provide a choice and cater to everyone by offering the option to attend or not.

The good thing with having these COVID OUTDOOR MEETINGS is we can get around town and choose a location closer to where you live, giving an opportunity to enjoy something a bit closer to home.  The first COVID OUTDOOR MEETING was held at Kelvin Heights, the last one in the CBD, the next one is out towards Glenorchy.  On April 5 we will head to Arrowtown and have a guest speaker coming in via Facetime.  We hope by 19 April, we will be back at the Holiday Inn, or by 3 May at the latest.

FOUNDATION DINNERS

ROTARY FOUNDATION UKRAINE HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE
In response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, The Rotary Foundation has created a channel for members to contribute funds
to support relief efforts

https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-foundation-creates-channel-direct-humanitarian-support-ukraine-region

At this point, the Board has not decided to donate, and will leave it up to members to make their own donation if they so wish.

Additionally shelter box is responding to the Ukraine.  Following is a letter to all Rotarians from Shelter Box.

PIVOTAL POINT - UPDATE FROM LISA LEFTLY
Celebration Week fundraiser 21-27 March - If you wish to donate or make a pledge, please do so as soon as possible
Kia ora Queenstown Rotary Club,
I just wanted to touch base and send you an update on the work we have done this year so far (see attached).
I hope to launch the Pivotal Point Pledge for Neurodiversity Celebration Week (21st - 27th March). The money raised will go directly to help children access assessments and therapies that they need which otherwise would not be possible, due to costs. Every dollar will matter and be a great investment in our childrens future.

Ngā mihi nui,
Lisa Leftley

BROOKE HART -  ADVOCATE FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND SUICIDE PREVENTION
Brooke will be a guest speaker at our Arrowtown COVID Outdoor Meeting on 5 th April, via Facetime. If this is weather effected, this meeting will be carried over to the 12 th April.
Brooke has been introduced to us by Invercargill South Rotary Club. Brooke spoke to this club and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Brookes personal journey has been tough. She’s getting better now. Going through this struggle has made her realise how hard it is to get help, and she is passionate about creating awareness of the acute lack or support and services for people who struggle with their mental health in the Southland area.
Brooke has set up a Give-A-Little page and is accepting donations. Brook will be in Queenstown the week of April 18-22 nd to attempt her challenge of kayaking the length of Lake Wakatipu. That the 80km, from Glenorchy to Kingston.

A few words from Brooke
Hi everyone,
I am Brooke, I'm 20 and I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I have had many rough days and multiple hospital admissions, but I am finally on my way to improving my mental state.
On my journey, I have become very passionate about Mental Health and Suicide. I now have my heart set on becoming an advocate for these topics and what is the best way to start doing this than fundraising. The 4 charities I’m fundraising for are:
- The Mental Health Foundation NZ
- I Am Hope
- Lifeline
- Voices of hope

My fundraiser involves just me, myself and I (along with a support boat for health & safety reasons) kayaking the length of Lake Wakatipu. That's 80km, Glenorchy to Kingston. The reason I am doing this is to raise money for Mental Health. It will be physically and mentally demanding, which is what it like to struggle with mental health.
I am hoping to complete this challenge around Easter time in 2022. It would be greatly appreciated if I could have your support and if possible I would love if you could donate. It will be going to such an important cause that is close to my heart and many others in NZ.

Thank you so much
Brooke
