On Tuesday evening, our guest speaker was Peter Newport, the managing editor from Cruz.. "Peter is a former reporter for Radio NZ, and a former producer with TV3. He started his career at the Otago Daily Times and TVNZ before working for Australia's Channel Nine as their London Correspondent." (Crux, 2025) Peter resides in Queenstown and spoke about the evolution of journalism and some of the strategies used to survive, now operating as a one-man band. Crux's Business Model and challenges: Crux was rescued by subscribers after going into incubation in November last year, suggesting that people are willing to pay for news in the Queenstown area. Despite challenges, Crux has a significant readership and uses Facebook as a funnel to attract subscribers. |
