A new Rotary year has started, and I thought I would email all Rotarians in District 9980 to introduce myself, the Assistant District Governors, and to pass on some dates for your diaries.

For those I have not met before, my name is Andrew Hamilton.  I belong to the Dunedin Central Rotary Club, and I have the privilege to be your District Governor for the 2018/19 Rotary year.  I am married to Barbara and we have two daughters.  Abbey is in her first year of University study, and Laura is in Year 12.

Barbara and I look forward to meeting as many Rotarians in the District as we can over the next twelve months.

For your information, the following Rotarians are our District Assistant Governors.  Each Assistant Governor is assigned an area of Rotary Clubs to look after:

Dave McKissock       Invercargill
Candace Bangura    Remainder of Southland
Nick Wood              Central Otago
Lea Johnson           Rural Otago
Derek King             Dunedin
Raewyn Francis      Oamaru/Waimate
Lynette Wilson       Timaru/Temuka-Geraldine plus the E-Club

The full directory of Rotary Clubs in the District, and District Officers, can be found on the District website https://rotarydistrict9980.org/

Here are some Rotary dates for your diary:
  • Sunday 26 August 2018, 9am-3pm.  Club Development Day in Dunedin.  Come and listen to an inspirational speaker from Australia.
  • Saturday 10 November 2018.  A fun day out for everyone in District 9980.  Details will come later.
  • Friday 26 April – Sunday 28 April 2019.  Our Rotary District Conference in Oamaru.  Register at  www.9980conference.co.nz
Other events happening in the District are shown in the Rotary District Website Event Calendar at the following link https://rotarydistrict9980.org/events/calendar

These Rotary events are a great chance to network with Rotarians from other Clubs, catch up with old friends, make new friends and, most importantly, have fun!

Many of you will know that Rotary International President Barry Rassin’s theme for the 2018/19 year is “Be the Inspiration”.  When you see the thousands of projects Rotarians undertake during a year, you cannot help but be inspired.

Like all things in life, you will get out of Rotary what you put into it, and as well as “doing good in the community”, I hope you gain some personal development along the way, meet new people and enjoy yourself.

I look forward to meeting you during the year.

Kind regards
Andrew Hamilton
