Thank you to everyone that turned up to hear our fellow Rotarian and leader of the Opposition Christopher Luxon speak. It was a good opportunity to be informed with time for a question-and- answer session after Christopher’s address. It was also good to see so many friends and neighbours of Rotarians who had been invited along. We had just over 70 attending the function. My personal thanks to Ross Beal for organising to have Joseph Mooney and Christopher Luxon along to speak while they were in Queenstown.
This coming Tuesday we have an Astro photographer speaking to us and we will also have a visit from Lisa Vaivars and Alfie the Labradoodle therapy dog, that we helped fund for young Luca.
My year as your President is fast approaching its closure and to that end, we have booked our change-over for 20th June at the Holiday Inn Remarkables Park. Invitations will be sent out shortly so please keep the date free to attend if you can.
Regards
Grant Rees

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS
We welcome three new members to the club.

Ron Bollen recently moved to Arrowtown from Auckland has joined the club and is looking forward to getting to know club members, and contributing to the club.  Ron has the worked as a CEO of NZ loyalty marketing company, and has over 30 years experience working with multinationals worldwide.  Interests include walking and skiing.  Ron has family connections with Rotary, his father being president of a club in Vancouver.  Ron is married to Vicki.
Ron Bollen being inducted into the Club by David Tait
Libby Jarvis, has settled in Kelvin Heights and who, also, has relocated from Auckland and is transferring from the Epsom Rotary Club.  Libby has worked as a Real Estate Agent and has many interests including sporting; skiing (a member of the Central Alpine and Whakapapa ski Foundations), running, tramping and is a reader.  Additionally she is committed to anything to do with family and and charity work.  Libby is married to Jon.

Stanley Paris, resides both in Queenstown  and  in the USA. He has been a member of Rotary in various clubs, in NZ and USA, including President of the Belmont Club.  Currently his interests include solo sailing and wine (he has set up the Wine Label Monte Christo Wines here in Central Otago) as well as being involved with the Paris Family Foundation and the Physical Therapy research Foundation. Stanley is a trained  physiotherapist, a past university president and has an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Otago.

So everyone please get to know our new members better in the next few weeks and share your own motivations and history.

MARITIME LAW INSIGHT
The guest speaker this week was Jamie Neill, a Maritime lawyer from Sydney.

The biggest case he worked on was the Tampa ship refugees. He had "interesting" snippets about cases he's been involved in and obtaining an insight into shipping and container management.

A fun fact, if you book a container to ship your goods you may have a lot more liability than just your container damage if the ship has an incident.

A HANDS ON SESSION WITH ST JOHN

We welcomed a duo from the local Branch of St Johns.
Sarah Bloxham, who is the Community Engagment CoOrdinator for Central Lakes, gave us a comprehensive run down of their Social and Community based programs, which compliment the ambulance and emergency role we usually associate with St Johns. She also showed 2 video clips explaining the organisation of the emergency response, and demonstrating CPR and the operation of AED’s.
Her colleague Kelvin, an Emergency Medical Technician, first explained, then demonstrated CRP and the operation of the AED’s.
Although not many Members took the opportunity to have a go at CPR, one had the impression that this timely message was well received.

Then a reminder session on the use of an AED
