Russell's Ramblings
Looking at our proposed activities and speakers it’s amazing that we are only a ‘Hop, Step and Jump’ to Christmas and the 2019 New Year Celebrations and at this stage ¼ of my year as your leader has been completed. Whilst I can’t claim any significant achievements during that time there are various items siting in the wings ready for our action. As mentioned at an early stage my favourite word was ‘Delegation’ and I am more than happy with how the individual committees have been meeting and of course trust that they will meet regularly during the year so that the overall administration of the club is spread throughout the entire membership.
Membership has now to be our number one priority. When the annual subscriptions were sent out we lost two members and of course the unexpected resignation from Gemma as she has shifted to Wellington. We of course will be letting Wellington know that she is now in their area. The other situation that we have is Martin and Jan Chappell have sold their home at Arrowtown and are shortly moving to Oxford in Canterbury to be closer to family and greater medical facilities that we have at Lakes District.  So, of course this leaves us with minus five from the start of the Rotary year beginning 1st July. I have asked our Membership Team to arrange another Information Night as soon as possible. This does not need to rely on them entirely. In past years one of the duties was to ‘Bring a Friend to Rotary’ and perhaps this should be re-introduced. When I attended my first Rotary Meeting back in 1990 I was a guest of one of the then Rotarians, Of course I later had two or three years out of the system due to family commitments and then re-joined when those commitments were under control.
Have you someone who you would like to introduce as a Prospective Member, if so bring them
along and introduce them into Rotary.
Russell.
REMINDER: This week we are meeting at The Holiday Inn
Bring along your partner and guests. This will be an interesting and informative meeting with our Guest Speaker, Local MP Hamish Walker.

As the Club will be charged by the Holiday Inn for current members meals, if you can not attend and haven't informed the Club, we will required to charge you.

Rotary Events Coming Up.....

A District wide “Fun Day” is being organised for Saturday 10th November 2018. This will be a day when all Rotarians, and their families, in the District can get together, socialise and have a fun day out. There will be a Car rally involved, (an opportunity to raise funds for your club). We will all meet for lunch in Cromwell and enjoy some time at Highlands Park Raceway! This is being organised by the District Assistant Governors and should be a great day out. Further details will follow later, but in the meantime mark the date in your diaries!

Planning for the District Conference is well under way and we have had a steady stream of registrations. Just to remind you, the Conference is in Oamaru on April 26 – 28, 2019. There is a limit on the number of registrations we can take, so do not delay! If you have not already done so, appoint a Club member to be the conference co-ordinator and organise a group from your Club to attend what will be a fantastic weekend of catching up with old friends, making new friends, hearing some special speakers, along with the opportunity to be involved in a project.

Polio Fundraiser - Movie Night "Bohemian Rhapsody"

"Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy? "
This is our Movie night - coming up on 31 October.
We are expecting to be able to fill the 100 seat theatre which would contribute approx. $1,000.00 towards the Polio Eradication Programme.
So start getting your party together  - Tell your friends and family -  Get ready to be entertained!
The International Marathon Fellowship of Rotarians

IMFR (The International Marathon Fellowship of Rotarians) was formed after a group of French Rotarians developed the idea of having at least 100 Rotarians competing in the Paris Marathon during Rotary’s Centennial year in 2005 and have since met annually. President Kester Baines (Rotary Club of Kardinia, Geelong, Victoria, Australia District 9780) decided that he would like to take this event to New Zealand in general and Queenstown in particular.

A travelling group of 31, their tour starts in Auckland on 3rd November and arrive in Queenstown via the West Coast on Thursday 15th November and will participate in the Air NZ Queenstown Marathon. From Queenstown they travel to Milford Sound and overnight on the Milford Mariner return to their native homes on Thursday 22nd November.

SO WHAT’S OUR PART IN THIS EVENT?

We are arranging a Pasta Night for them on Friday 19th November at Wild Thyme and on Saturday 20th November a Dinner for them, most likely at Copthorne Lakeside where they are staying. Both nights will of course be open for our club members and partners so that we can offer the hand of friendship and hospitality and make sure that their stay in Queenstown becomes a very memorable one for them. I believe that this is a great opportunity for us to ‘Show Case’ Queenstown and Queenstown Rotary and at the same time experience another International Rotary Event, on this occasion in our own back yard.

Please note your diaries accordingly and I trust that I have your full co-operation to making this one timer for Queenstown a great success.

Hosts Required for 2019 Inbound RYE Students
Every year presents an awesome opportunity for families to be a Host for a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. Not only do the students get to find out how to "live like a local" and experience our beautiful country but host families can learn about the students country and form a relationship which usually leads to strong ties and somewhere to go and visit in the future.

Queenstown Rotary Club is seeking expressions of interest for four Host families from July 2019. These families can be Rotarians, Friends of Rotary or from outside of Rotary.  If you think this is something you could be interested in, please contact President Russell or Ashley Adams for further information.
