Our Rotary year is rapidly drawing to a close, the past 11 months have gone very quickly. Some things have changed, and you have all embraced it. I hope you enjoyed it too. We have been busy and engaged in the community, making Rotary fun and interesting. This has also made us relevant, visible and appreciated by those who we touch. It is a privilege to be able to enrich other people's lives. I think it also enriches our lives.
So if I’m sounding a bit reflective, I am, and this is particularly heightened as I prepare and plan the changeover event. Changeover is on 22nd June. Incoming President Jason and I will enjoy hosting you and our special invited guests to mark this important occasion. I have heard good things about the venue. We will probably miss seeing the views as it will be dark but I hear they are beautiful.
We returned to the ‘Crown’ this week, what did you think this time? I have made it no secret that I really like it there and I reckon it would be a fabulous venue for our weekly meetings. It’s got the kids area for any new members that have kids, the food and service is fabulous, it has easy access and lots of parking. Last time, there were mumblings that it would be cold and draughty during winter and the acoustics were of concern. Personally I think this time around it was a lot better, we had the microphone and a wee speaker and it certainly was warm and cosy, in fact so warm, we asked for the fire to be turned off. Have a think about it and let the incoming Board know your thoughts in the survey.
Speaking of the survey, by now you should either have a hard copy that was handed out this week, or one emailed to you (check your emails). You can print it off and fill it in. Please return either at the meeting next week or the week after on 15th June. Thank you.
So what is in store for us during the Rotary 2021-22 year? How will the survey results shape the year ahead? Well, that is up to you. In just under a month, a new Rotary year will begin. It is Rotary International’s 116th year. New Zealand Rotary will celebrate 100 years and we turn 77! Congratulations to us and to Rotary!
The 2021-2022 District Governor is Nick Wood from the Cromwell Rotary Club and it will be our last year as a Club in District 9980 as the following year we become a larger, complete South Island District D9999.
The Rotary International President for 2021/22 is Shekhar Mehta from West Bengal in India. His theme for the 20/21 year is
“SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES”
There will be one more bulletin from me before changeover. Until then remember, if you know someone who would enjoy Rotary, who would be a fabulous Rotarian, then bring them along to a meeting. Like I say each fortnight in this bulletin, don’t keep our Club a secret. Ask someone today.
