"A few Lines from Lee-Ann'"
Lee-Ann Lines
The Countdown is over! ‘Changeover’ is upon us.
President Elect Jason Climo and I have planned a special event for the Tuesday evening event. There will be 68 Rotarians, their partners and invited guests and friends attending. We will celebrate the stand out moments and Rotarians and of course, welcome incoming President Jason Climo.
Thank you all for your support and participation during my year. It has been phenomenal, and I am very grateful to you all. It has been a memorable journey of huge personal development. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as me.
The last 2 meetings have been educational and emotionally moving, especially for one person more than the rest of us! It could be considered unbecoming to tell so many lies, especially to our esteemed Mayor, but that is exactly what I did as I lured him to our Club meeting on the 8th of June under the guise of a COVID19 update. It obviously seemed legit, because he turned up duly prepared. But, if you didn’t witness it, the look on his face was priceless when it dawned on him that Steve McLean was talking about him. It took a wee while, so well done Steve! Once he realised, he was visibly moved and I did see him wipe a tear away. Mayor Jim Boult is a former Rotarian and therefore understands the significance of a PHF, and he is our Club's newest PHF recipient, given in recognition for two specific reasons: to recognise the contribution of the mayor to the community, while also acknowledging the overall efforts of the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) for its “outstanding commitment and support to the community during the worst of the initial COVID-19 lockdown,” and subsequent impact for those severely affected. (I have attached his letter to the Club, click here for the link.)
My last meeting as your President was a ‘Know How’ night. I was very happy to see most of you walk in with your devices and phones, all ready to get connected. Woohoo! So now, most of you are now linked to our Facebook page and Clubrunner on either or both of your phone and laptop or iPad. You also know how to access and login to the Club and District websites. Well done. We may hold another one of these nights for those who weren’t at the meeting or didn’t bring their devices.
The survey was due last week, but a number of you still haven’t returned it, so please bring it to ‘Changeover’. If you need another copy, please email me. If you are happy to return a completed form to me by email you can, although it won’t be anonymous then! Email to llines@xtra.co.nz
The District Changeover is this Saturday night in Cromwell. If you wish to join David, Gabrielle, Jason, Jodie, Hamish and I, please give me a call and I will help you register.
DG Dylan Murray has been a busy guy during his year. The highlight for me was his commitment to RYLA 2021 when he stopped being DG and became Camp Dad along with his wife Becs, as Camp Mum and his 3 wee kiddies who joined in with the big kids and had a great time. Fantastic. Dylan and the Waimate Rotary Club also put on a very good conference earlier this year of which we had 10 of our Club members present at.
The 2021/2022 District Governor is Nick Wood from the Cromwell Rotary Club and it will be our last year as a Club in District 9980 as the following year we become a larger, complete South Island District D9999. So lots to look out for.
The Rotary International President for 2021/22 is Shekhar Mehta from West Bengal in India. His theme for the 20/21 year is
“SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES”
On a sad note, you will all have heard about the passing of a local legend Sir Eion Edgar. There is a memorial service on Saturday to celebrate his very interesting life. Read more here:
So, this is it … that’s all from me. It’s going to be another awesome year with Jason in charge. He has a lot lined up and lots of great ideas to continue this momentum that we have. So, on that note, remember ... if you know someone who would enjoy Rotary, who would be a fabulous Rotarian, bring them along to a meeting. Like I have said all year, each fortnight in this bulletin, “don’t keep our Club a secret. Ask someone today”.
25th May - The 2021 Quiz Night Champions – compared to the others, their name was quite … simple, but there’s nothing simple about these quiz-whizz’s! “Grants Team” won by 4 points more than their nearest rivals the “Ex-Laws”.
The order was – 1st – Grant’s Team (44), 2nd Ex-Laws (40), 3rd = “Shooting Stars” & “Canines”, 4th – “Sexual Chocolate” (38. WHY??) and finally 5th – “Cleanskin” (31. Maybe they had too much of the high class table wine we enjoy each week!!)
Many thanks to Bruce Boivin for running the Quiz Night again and for providing the amazing prizes. The out-of-date jellybeans were a real treat and the favourite on the night (actually true!) 😊
FANCY BEING ADORED AND BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT? Auctions were last Saturday but you may still have a shot at the big time.
The Remarkable Theatre is after mature actors for their September performances of “Gone to Seed”. This funny show revolves around a gardening group and what they get up to when forced to fundraise.
Have you purchased your number plate surrounds yet? A fantastic way to celebrate Rotary's 100 year Centennial Celebrations. At just $15 per set, you could get one for your car, truck, van, caravan or tractor! They are super easy to install.
Days for Girls is an international project to help combat period poverty by providing reusable menstrual pads. Click on the link to be taken to the website for more info - https://www.daysforgirls.org/
PDG Derek Bulman works hard to ensure you enjoy a varied and interesting programme each week. He also is the one who allocates the Duties. If you have a duty and can’t attend, please make sure you find a replacement.
Meet & Greet - also includes ‘meeting set-up’. Please try and be at the venue by 5.20pm to ensure enough time to set up the meeting area. Instructions are in a folder in the Podium drawer.
The 3 Minute Talk - to make sure we run to time, please keep to between 3-5 minutes.
Apologies - Must be received to queenstownrotary@gmail.com before 12pm Tuesday at the latest. Please be aware that you will be invoiced for your meal if no apology is received. If you are unsure if you can make it each week, you can put in a permanent apology and let us know when you do come. It is easier to inform the restaurant of an extra meal than the Club having to pay for meals not claimed.

If you will be away, or for some other reason you cannot do your duty on the nominated day, it is your responsibility as soon as possible, and certainly no later than the Monday night before the meeting, to arrange a substitute. A swap with the person who has the duty the next week is suggested.
Please be there by 5.25 pm if you are on Reception or Meet & Greet.
