Well Team, by the time that you receive this week’s bulletin, the NZ Open will have been played and won.
This is the annual mobilisation of Queenstown Rotary Club members in support of this International event.
BBQ’s, along with Carparking have been the focus, and the events that I have attended have been well presented and well received by the NZ Open organisers.

Can I extend my thanks to all 28 members who have volunteered their time, and some on more than one occasion to ensure the success of the week.
Special thanks to Ashley Adams who has expertly led and coordinated this event along side the NZ Open Organisers.  The Club appreciates your significant contribution into the success of this fund raiser.

A couple of weeks ago we had a presentation from Lachlan Kidd who we had supported to the Annual Science Forum in Auckland.
Lachlan has applied on his own cognisance to attend the International Science Forum in London, and he spoke to this and his future career aspirations during his speech. On the back of that we encouraged Lachlan to submit a formal application to the Club for some level of further support to assist him to achieve his goal. The Board have recommended to the Trust that we support Lachlan to the tune of $1000,00

Our speaker this week is our very own Keith McIntosh.   Keith and Heather have just returned from the DGE Training Forum in Florida,
Keith will unpack his reflections on his trip to us on Tuesday evening.  We look forward to hearing him speak.

The Child Cancer Collection will be held in March, and Grant will be seeking support to man this collection on Friday 14th March at New World Remarkable Park.
I am sure that you will support this worthy endeavour for the benefit of the Children who navigate the challenges of Cancer.  Thanks Grant.

Look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday evening at the Holiday Inn.

Take care and stay safe.

Cheers
Ross

GUEST SPEAKER -  GENESIS ACOSTA

Gen started her talk by expressing gratitude to the Rotary community and discussing her concept of "ikigai," which is a Japanese term for a purpose in life.

She shared insights into her early life, growing up in a small town in Mexico before moving to the bustling city of Acapulco for secondary school.

At the age of 17, she embarked on another significant change by relocating to Mexico City. With support from her parents, she pursued a degree in business engineering.

Gen then delved into her career as a project manager within the automotive industry, spanning across the USA, Canada, Germany, and Peru.

Having a sister residing in Queenstown, Gen decided to take a break, explore New Zealand and focus on enhancing her English skills.
NEW ZEALAND OPEN - 25TH OF FEBRUARY TO THE 3RD OF MARCH

The New Zealand Golf Open kicked off on the 25th of February. Club volunteers cooked a BBQ for 120 caddies beside the volunteer HQ marquee and it was well received. We are being paid a set fee of $2,760 for this.

Over the week-end we catered to the general public.  Sales on both days were slow in the morning but picked up well in the afternoon. Tomorrow we have the volunteers/sponsors barbecue catering to 170 people.  For this we receive a set fee of $4,760.

The BBQ for the general public last Sunday at Millbrook green was steady. We are being paid a set fee of $2,000 for this so, very successful.

The four days of parking were completed successfully with the weather being kind to us, even if a couple of days were somewhat on the hot side!  The club will receive a set fee of $4,000 for this work.

Sincere thanks to all members who have put up their hands to help with this.  Your involvement is sincerely appreciated.

I would like to congratulate Ashley Adams on all his hard work in running this service project.
WASP BAITING - GRANT REES

Grant is providing the wasp baiting again at this time of year.

Velpex is a protein bait that they take back and kills the nests.

It needs to be applied by a registered person (Grant) so if any one is interested please contact Grant Rees on

RICHARD BOWMAN - ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Richard Bowman recently gave the club a quick update on four of the ongoing projects.

- Lake Hayes wetland weeding - Thousands of plants have been planted at the domain end of Lake Hayes and require management and weeding until they become established.
- Lakeland camp gully- Ongoing development in association with RYLA and the Oregon drive planting.
- Adopt-a-plot - Wilding pine eradication continuing- some spraying being done as well.
- Arthurs Point Community Association - Assisting with weed control on the Morningstar reserve and track.

Fern Hill reserve plantings are growing well. The club needs to review the Rotary signage for these areas.
