Kia Ora Rotarians.
I trust that you are all doing OK in your new found incarceration. The good news is that it is only day 3 of home detention and we have been advised that we still have a number of weeks to perfect the art. It was good to chat briefly with everybody last week and those conversations left me satisfied that everybody was in good heart and in good spirits.
To be fair I enjoyed the ringing around as it got me out of folding towels, vacuuming and doing other inane indoor chores at the behest of Rosanna.
Lee-Ann and Hamish were clearly in good spirits (refer her Facebook page). If you keep up that pace, you will run out of wine.
Stuart Maclean was already bored, however he had pre-empted lock down by starting early on return from his enjoyable weekend in Australia at the Melbourne Grand Prix.
Hanna was fed up with Steve McLean because she claimed that Steve was cheating at cards.
Jean Macnicol was enjoying a little bit of peace as Colin had gone bush with his gun to do some shooting, although I don’t why as the Supermarkets are still open.
Bruce Boivin missed my first call as his newly implemented exercise regime is based on leaving his phone at the other end of the house so that he can exhaust himself sprinting to the phone when it rings.
Ralph and Betty are helping ‘Donald’ out while stranded in Washington DC but doing OK.
Ron Mackersy is terrorising Tarras apparently with a chain saw, and he has also constructed a putting green outside his front door, a simple Par 13 apparently.
When I explained to Brian Macpherson that I was phoning with a pastoral care call, he thought he was receiving a call from his Minister.
Ken Fox, a little like Stuart, was in day 9 of his post international travel isolation.
Chris Taylor was suffering from the early symptoms of golf withdrawal.
Tony Robins had supplemented his panic buying with gin and chocolates.
Jan and Martin Chappell send their regards to all and are happy in their new residence in Oxford.
My brief chat with Mayor Jim Boult confirmed that he is extremely busy but coping with the pressures of this event on our community.
Russell McGrouther: I spoke with Russell on Friday morning following his morning treatment. He reports that he now only has two further treatments to complete. He has been getting out and doing a little bit of walking so that is positive. It was great to chat with him and he was in good spirits and advised that Ruth is also well. That said that, given the lockdown provisions, they will remain in Mosgiel until we are released again on parole along with the rest of the nation.
Congratulations to Chris and Mary Ann Taylor on the birth of a new grandson during the week. A little boy. Mother and baby both well. Grandma and Grandad also chuffed. Chris will shout at a later date !!!!!
Rotary Youth Exchange throughout the country will be amended as a consequence of the current COVID-19 situation and the recommendation is that there would be no inbound students in July from the northern hemisphere.
Tuckers Track: A message from Kerry - ‘I haven't had a chance to thank you for attending the working bee on the Rotary Tucker track on 7th March. As you will see from the photos it was well worthwhile. Not only are the shrubs now weed free but they are growing strongly and I've removed the rabbit proof protectors from many of them.
The track has been used regularly by walkers, their dogs and bikers. People are always friendly and they often pass on favourable comments about the work that Rotary does in the community’.
Covid-19: Apparently we should always be washing our hands.
So, in the mean time, do your best to enjoy these moments of quiet reflection and contemplation between completing another one of the chores that your partner has had stored up for you for years, or reading another chapter of your book, or watching another instalment of Coronation Street or Shortland Street and having a further nanny nap to reduce the time before you retire again for the night so that you will be refreshed and fit to repeat the process all over again tomorrow.
If you need any level of support let me know and we will endeavour to respond.
Look after each other, take care, stay healthy, and keep your chins up.
