President's Update
The next month is going to be very busy with a number of fundraising events. We will need your support for the Home Show and the NZ Open Golf at Millbrook.
We are hosting a Rotary Group from New Orleans, District 6840 from Tuesday through Friday 16 April to 19 April. We will require 5/6 home hosts for two couples and four ladies. Please let Grant or me know if you can assist. We will also need 3 cars to transport them to a number of tourist destinations.
I am attending the Invercargill Rotary Club 100th birthday celebration in a couple of weeks time. Our Club will celebrate our 80th on Saturday 13th April so please put this date in your diary. More details to follow.
Another very successful ‘Rotary Young Leaders’ camp has been completed in Queenstown at the Lakeland Park Christian Camp from 28 Jan to 2 Feb. The weather held for most of the week to enable the outdoor programme to proceed on hot, sunny days.
29 incredible young leaders from all over the South Island, plus 3 from the North Island, embarked on a week of experiencing inspiring speakers, leadership development workshops, and personal growth. Pushed to their limits at times, they all rose above the exhaustion to carry on and complete a community service project and a 3 hour, non-stop, working bee in ‘The Gully’ including tree removal and track maintenance.
The Camp Managers and Trustees are thrilled with the results achieved by this group. The RYLA legacy continues, and we are putting a big Rotary stamp on the property.
Thank you again to the Queenstown Rotary Club for your support – for the 5th year! Lee-Ann appreciates you all very much.
A special mention to Ken Fox, Neil Dempsey, Richard Bowman, Hamish Murray, Nell Hunter (and hubby Riki) plus all those who assisted in The Gully project, and of course the amazing Tony Fleming with Southern Bobcats.
Planning is well under way for a 'captivating' District 9999 1-day Conference in Christchurch on Saturday 20 April.
It will be held in Te Pae, the Christchurch Convention Centre, in the Waitaki Room from 8.50am to 3pm (see photos in link)
The Early bird tickets will be available online from the end of the month until 1 March:
$120 for Rotarians or Partners of Rotarians ($30 early bird discount)
$150 for non-Rotarians ($30 early bird discount)
$100 for Rotaractors or attendees of RYLA in 2023 or 2024 ($20 early bird)
$100 for attending the Long Lunch only from 11.30am to 1.30pm ($20 early bird)
Some home hosting by Christchurch Rotarians will be available to help keep costs down.
Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger will open the Conference.
Matt Chisholm will be the Mental Health keynote speaker on mental health.
Adele Keefe will be another keynote speaker on Empowering Women and Girls.
Past International Rotary President Jennifer Jones will be speaking at the Long Lunch and will be available to talk informally with people immediately after 3pm.
There will be an option for evening drinks and/or a meal at a nearby restaurant/bar (own cost).
Non-Rotarians are welcome/encouraged to attend, so invite your friends.
We would like to have our Club have a contingent to enjoy a fun and learning time together in Christchurch.
Let's make this opportunity and first Conference for District 9999 a raging success.
