MEETING NOTES

Tuesday 8th Nov - Marathon traffic manager presentation & slideshow-had a very good attendance. Jackets, maps and T-shirts were given out. Instructions on how to use the radios and Health and Safety notes have been emailed to volunteers. E-mail Jan if you didn't get them.

There has been a good response to Treasurer Alan's request for subs to be paid. Just a reminder that they are due.

Tuesday 15th Nov- Vocational visit to the new Harvey Norman store at Remarkables Park where we were treated to drinks, nibbles and an interesting overview of the Harvey Norman brand. We then went to Hamills for a very good meal.

Wakatipu Guides are struggling to find leaders to volunteer for unit meetings and session planning There are around 60 girls in 5 units in the Wakatipu and two of those units may have to close if they can’t find volunteers to help. If you know anyone who could help, please ask them to email Belinda Ricketts pippinsqt@yahoo.com

The "How to Keep Safe With Dogs" pamphlets are to be delivered by Pat and Bruce this week, to all Wakatipu schools. David Carter has given $80 towards the $1166.00 cost and challenges all other dog owners to do the same. Monica thinks that all members with grandchildren under 6 should also match David's contribution.

TREES FOR SURVIVAL

Why buy someone a goat in Africa for Christmas? Try buying them trees in New Zealand – after all, goats eat trees!
This year one of our Trees for Survival schools planted a wetland site in Taupaki with 300 native trees. We’d like to invite you to sponsor some of these trees as your environmental gift to a loved one this year.
Sponsor 10 trees at $50 / Sponsor 20 trees at $100
We will send you a magnificent handmade card with Christmas decoration outlining this sponsorship, for you to gift to someone.
To participate in this fundraiser, please visit https://trees-for-survival-christmas-fundraiser.myshopify.com/

MONICA’S 3 MINUTE TALK  8th November
I want to tell you about a charity that I am involved with
The recipients of this charity have a peculiar trait, they attempt suicide at 10 times the national average.....
Around 41% of this section of society attempt suicide.
That rate increases markedly to 60 or 70% if they have been physically or sexually abused or bullied.
What you might ask would cause people to commit suicide at such a rate.
They are rejected and shunned by their families and friends and this leads to depression, poverty, despair and finally suicide.

What is the terrible crime of these people that makes them be rejected, ridiculed and abused by their families and former friends you might ask?
In truth, they have a medical condition that they can do nothing about and because of this they are shunned.
What, in this day and age would make society shun people with a medical condition?
