AN EVENING WITH THE POLITICIANS
“Wow!" This was David Carter’s first word in summing up and thanking the four politicians for sharing their policies and ideologies with us on Tuesday evening.  I absolutely agree with him.  There is nothing like a personal encounter and listening with an open mind to really learn.  I came away wanting to vote for all four: Joseph Mooney, current National MP; Todd Stephenson, Act Party (4th on the Party List); Simon McCallum, Labour Party, AI Expert and Univerity Professor; Dave Kennedy Green Party, Executive member of Farmers Markets New Zealand.

The evening was so enjoyable with plenty of Rotarians and friends there to enjoy a meal (now a choice of options).  Chris Taylor enlightened us on his connections to Joseph Mooney, I did not know Chris could be such a comedian!
Also a big thankyou to Lee-Ann who carried out the President’s duties as well as prepare the run sheet and to the star of the evening, Nell, who was amazing as the compere. (Move over Jack Tame and Jessica Much-McKay).

As an insight into the night, the final question to the candidates, and I do not want to bias your vote here… election was last night so alright to do so, was “Pineapple, yes or no as an ingredient on your pizza?” National and Act “No” Labour and Greens “Yes”

The event was the official beginning of a period of recruitment for the club, and will be officially  registered on November 20.

Correspondence. Noted with ongoing regionalisation programme that Neil has met with the Presidents of the clubs from the Central Otago area and they have realised that a regional group in this area ( Queenstown, Wanaka, Cromwell, Alexandra ) would be advantageous for all the clubs and assist in projects that affect our joint communities.
Polio fundraising- There is no Rotary arranged movie night , We will try to organise our own event if possible at the Dorothy Brown cinema in Arrowtown. Grant to look into this.
Discussion regarding the Christmas function this year. Neil to look into the possibility of holding at the bowling club, if we can use the premises and get catering. Possibly to be held on Dec. 12th.
Query about the Melbourne cup – If we will have some sort of function as per some years? No-one  able to organize an external event this year but possibly have an early start to the meeting on Tues 7th Nov to watch and a sweepstake?
Email received regarding the poultry Assn conference to be held in Queenstown in the second half of next year and a request to provide barbeque service at the Lake Hayes arena for around 120 people. The board agreed that this is something we should be able to do and will look int this further.

Environment: Richard. Looking at working Bees regarding our Adopt-a-plot. The wilding Pine groups are doing working programmes and we could tie in with these. Suggest we look at Sunday 5th Nov. (Richard to try and confirm dates and plans- David to co-ordinate)
Also noted plans for two working Bees this weekend – the first assisting the KAPOW group with planting on Saturday morning from 10am to 12pm . Also a little work needing done with weather damage at Lakeland park – help from 1pm also on Saturday.
