At this week’s meeting we will have the top echelon of Wakatipu High School present i.e. the Principal Steve Hall and the current Head Boy and Head Girl Archie Ritchie and Gracie Hansby.  All three will be speaking to us.   Archie has just returned from the National Rotary Science Forum in Auckland and is one of two who have been selected to attend the International Science Forum in London in July.  It will be great to hear of his experiences whilst in Auckland.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend and assist with the Feehly Hill clean up but I thank all those who assisted.  As normal this appears to be our busy period helping out in various community activities.

Our next key activity is the Home Show during the weekend 22nd- 24th February. We will be requiring all hands on deck during this weekend.  We will be involved with a BBQ at the NZ Open and hosting assistance is still required for the Tasmanian Professional Exchange whilst they are in Queenstown 16/20 April.  See attached.

It has been agreed by the Board that we will offer to host an Inbound Rotary Youth Exchange Student for 12 months from July.  I’m aware that we have two potential host families but ideally, we need three or four.  If you can assist, or need further information, please make contact with Steve McLean, Lee-Ann Lines or myself.  We need to get our confirmation to Rotary District ASAP.

Along with these activities we are also assisting with the Wakatipu High School part of our District Speech Competition.

I thank you all for your participation in the various events and activities and by your contribution you are extending the fellowship of Rotary with other Rotarians and at the same time the community in general.

See you on Tuesday

Russell

ROTARY PRESIDENTS CHARITY CYCLE CHALLENGE

Rotary Presidents Charity Cycle Challenge, Saturday 23 February. 100 kms Mossburn to Invercargill.

All proceeds go to Hospice Southland.  There are about 30 cyclists, mostly Rotarians (but you don’t have to be) who have entered so far.  It is not a race but it is well organised with road safety measures in place with support vehicles.  There will be a number of stops so that the slowest riders can catch up.  There is also a 160km ride which begins at Te Anau.

The first attachment contains the sponsorship form and the bank account number.  You can either pay me cash (which I don’t recommend) or pay direct online to 03 1745 0005791-00  to Hospice Southland.

The second attachment is for those who require a receipt and wish to have a tax deduction.

Last year $18,000.00 was raised which was wonderful.

As your representative from the Rotary Club of Queenstown, there may be others so let me know.  I ask that you give generously and pray that we don’t have to ride into a howling southerly!!

Kind regards,

Kerry

If you will be away, or for some other reason you cannot do your duty on the nominated day, it is your responsibility as soon as possible, and certainly no later than the Monday night before the meeting, to arrange a substitute.  A swap with the person who has the duty the next week is suggested.
Please be there by 5.25 pm if you are on Reception or Meet & Greet.
