Valma and I have been out in the garden enjoying this beautiful autumn weather as I’m sure you have too. We have moved slowly as our gorgeous 6yr granddaughter left a farewell gift for us – shocking colds.

Thanks to Gabrielle and the team of Lee-Ann, Jess and Cora who went over to a meeting in Cromwell to explore the idea of a Rotaract Club in the Central Lakes district with the Rotary Clubs of Cromwell, Wanaka, Alexandra and Queenstown. This is a great initiative and would be excellent if we can help establish a club.

I am looking forward to our visit to Morningstar Reserve this coming Tuesday, to see the progress of all of the plantings. This is an excellent project and will be a great asset for the whole community. The idea of beer and pizza at Canyon brewery also has its attractions.

The lunchtime meeting with Christopher Luxon has now been changed to an afternoon tea. This is on Thursday 25th May. I would encourage everyone to attend even if you are not a National supporter. It is good to hear the ideas of all the parties. Come along and listen and ask any of the difficult questions you may have.

Regards
Grant Rees

GUEST SPEAKER FRED VAN BRANDENBURG

Fred, gave a most interesting presentation with visual complements on shis architectural work locally and around the world.

The biggest project is the HQ for a Chinese fashion label named Marisfolg which Fred said "keeps on giving". It has been going for many years and is 95% completed. His inspiration is from nature.  3D printed models were used to guide the architecture process.  These are being shipped to China now for a planned museum. Everything to do with the building including materials, fittings and landscapes follow Freds design.

His inspiration was from the works of Gaudi in Barcelona and his 9 visits there to study his works.

Closer to home they talked about an apartment development on Frankton Road which now has resource consent.
