Thank you to members who were present at the Club Assembly on the 13th August. I hope you found the evening to have been of value and you were granted sufficient opportunity to contribute. From that evening we were able to advise you of the Member Service initiative with the Chamber of Commerce.
This extends the Clubs membership of the Chamber to each of you so take advantage of the activities offered as you see fit.
The Rotary Club of Queenstown has also been named as a finalist in the ‘Spirit of the Wakatipu’ Awards. Our nomination in the Spirit of the Community category has been selected as a finalist and the announcement of the winner will be at a Gala Dinner on September 14th.
The 11 tickets purchased for the Gala Dinner have now been snapped up.
The membership present also supported the recommendation to change our Tuesday night meeting venue from Wild Thyme to Holiday Inn off Frankton Road. This will take effect from Tuesday 3rd September and will become our regular home.
Some of our members are going to extraordinary lengths to avoid Rotary meetings and Kerry Dunlop has dodged a speaking slot to be in Dunedin Hospital by claiming a dodgy knee. Ashley Adams, not wishing to be left out, has unceremoniously launched himself off a grassy knoll and broken his leg. The good news is both will survive. As you know “one-legged blokes are a pushover” and so speaking slots will be awaiting them both on their return I would suggest. All the best to them for a speedy recovery.
John Taylor and Darren Rewi have also introduced themselves to our medical professionals. It is great to see them both back at Rotary last week so take care you two.
We continue to think of Richard Cunliffe in Wakari Hospital and we wish him well for his recovery.
Then we have the holiday makers, Stuart MacLean who has had enough of organising speakers and has ducked overseas for a few weeks, while our Pauline Hazlemore recipient Derek Bulman is unashamedly lounging around on a beach in Noosa while being disciplined to ensure that he keeps the fluids up. Neil Dempsey, along with Brian and Kerry Dunstan, are also enjoying the delights of life over the ditch while David Tait and Gabrielle Schou have taken Europe by storm but will be back soon.
We look forward to their return.
At our next meeting on 27th August Hanna, our Rotary Youth Exchange student, will be our speaker. The meeting is therefore open to partners and friends so come and enjoy hearing our lovely Exchange Student, from Sweden, speak.
Take Care Rotarians - see you next meeting
Cheers
Ross
