Rotary is an organisation which brings together, in fellowship, leaders from business, politics, religion, not-for-profits etc to solve local problems. We do so by using our leadership and organisational skills to benefit the community. This helps us enhance and grow our skills, build the community and makes us better leaders and role models.
Call it what you like: Coordinator, Liaison, Champion, this role is very important for our Rotary Club. We are very lucky to have a number of excellent people filling these roles this year:
Bob Craigie - Happiness House
Brian McPherson - Basket of Blessings
Ken Fox - Abbeyfield
Ron Mackersy - Torben Clarke
Kerry Dunlop - Meals on Wheels
Ken Fox - Shelterbox
Awaiting a Coordinator:
CAB (Citizen's Advice Bureau)
Salvation Army
Youth Trust
The Coordinator is our Club’s link to these organisations. The Coordinator is our eyes and ears as far as these organisations are concerned. They push the Club to donate more money and more people power to helping out these organisations.
The Coordinator invites these organisations to our social functions and ensures that the Club is up to date with what is happening in them.
The Coordinator is like somebody in love or like a gadfly …. they go on and on about the wonderful abilities of these organisations and how they really are the only organisation worth donating to! OK, I exaggerate! … but only a little ... and we all get a certain pleasure from seeing the passion of the Coordinator. The Coordinator's job, when well done, is a source of pride and comfort to the individual and brings a great sense of satisfaction.
I would urge people to take a Coordinator role, it is a wonderful way of learning many new skills. Remember you can only grow if you get outside your comfort zone ... and life is growth!
