The strategy for this year, as you will have worked out, is very different from previous years ... and Russell may well wish (depending on the outcome of this year’s experiment) to return to the strategy of previous years. However, my view is that we need to keep trying new things if we really want to move our Rotary Club to the next level.
This year it is down to the individual members to make the program work. The various projects were designed so that all members have a stake in moving the club forward and in making the club work efficiently. The projects are designed so that all members, and not just the Board, are connecting and inspiring. Currently we have a full program of meetings until end October but we have nothing after that. If people do not start to come forward and book slots, then we will probably start allocating slots at random. You may trade your slot with somebody else, provided Russell does not think that the program will be seriously inconvenienced.
There is no coordinator this year for activities such as Daffodil Day, Meals on Wheels etc. If no champions come forward to organise these activities, then they are not going to happen. If the club does not support them, for whatever reason, then I am happy to let these activities lapse for this year. The Board is just the conductor ... the members are the orchestra, whatever music they play is what we get!
The Board advises that funds of approx $7000 were raised at the Duck Race and requests that this amount be increased to $8000 with $4000 each being paid out to Happiness House and the Coastguard who were the designated recipients (by NRG).
An amount of $1000 was paid ex Trust funds to Wakatipu Youth Trust to send two of their youth to Camp Carolina.
This survey (see the link below to the survey - just send the link to your adult children and ask them to fill it in) has only been completed by 7 people. However, the quality of the answers has been very useful. They know that their parents have had a lot of satisfaction and networking opportunities from their Rotary connection. They are fully aware of the benefits of being a Rotarian. We really do need to work on their objections to joining. From what little information we have, the key objections are: the requirement to attend weekly (this is no longer the case!), the fact that the club is all male, the lack of age diversity in the club, the time requirement to being a Rotarian, the outdated formalities.
The following are the nominations that we have received for the various club committees. Where appropriate, these will be ratified at the Club Assembly on 19th September.
Charitable Trust
Ken Fox
David Carter
Tony Robins
Ross Beal
Chris Taylor
Richard Cunliffe
We could do with some more nominations for the Charitable Trust.
Mary-Jane Moffat, a member of the Fiordland Rotary Club, is currently employed as HR Manager for Clutha-Southland for the general elections. She is looking for people to work at polling places on election day in Queenstown and Frankton. If any Rotarians or people you know would like to do this please apply online at www.elections.org.nz or contact Mary-Jane on 027 553 0185.
If you will be away, or for some other reason you cannot do your duty on the nominated day, it is your responsibility as soon as possible, and certainly no later than the Monday night before the meeting, to arrange a substitute. A swap with the person who has the duty the next week is suggested. Also you must advise the Sheriff: Alan Ward Ph. 021 4750077 Alan@TSQueenstown.co.nz
Please be there by 5.25 pm if you are on Reception or Meet & Greet.
