Dear Queenstown Rotary members,
As leaders in our community, Catalyst Trust and Jigsaw Central Otago would like to invite you to take part in our upcoming community workshop “Family and Sexual Violence – Yes It Does Happen Here Too”.
We are capitalising on having experts in town for what is believed to be the first national Family and Sexual Violence Conference, being organised by Jigsaw, to shed light on this largely hidden and ignored topic. Perhaps even more hidden in a resort town where glitz is prevalent and family connections less common.
It will be held on Thursday, April 20, 7-9pm in Queenstown Memorial Centre. The evening will start with our panel of nationally renowned speakers – Louise Nicholas, Ken Clearwater, Nicola Atwool and Rachel Smith. If you would like to read more about them, please see the Catalyst website. We will then have an opportunity for Q&A before roundtable discussion of possible approaches for our community.

Pauline Blomfield loves dogs, but she also knows they can be dangerous - especially when children are involved. She believes educating children about how dogs behave - and what could cause them to bite - can cut the number of dog attacks. Her book, How to Keep Kids Safe With Dogs, hopes to do that.The book has a few simple things children can be taught to be safe around dogs, and teaches adults how to spot a stressed dog who could bite.
